Following the Plan for the Development of the Alentejo Tourism, a group of municipalities from the Alto Alentejo region promoted the creation of an Operational Plan for the Development of Tourism, reflecting the growing interest from local agents in this industry. The strong investment in the active tourism and in tourism activities associated with nature resulted in a close collaboration with local enterprises and institutions.
